After our near-five-month hiatus from New York, there was no better place to stage a return than Lakeside Lounge, last night. We love that place, their awesome backline (I was playing through a very nice Fender Pro Junior, all done up with JJ tubes and a Jensen speaker), Alex the Soundguy, and the fact that we set up while shooting the shit with co-owner Roscoe about the Tour de France (which, lets be honest, was an awesome race this year). The crowd was awesome, too. There’s nothing like playing for people who appreciate what you do to energize you for upcoming shows. All but two songs we played last night are new, the majority of them hot off the press, so it was fucking great to hear how much you liked the set. Moments like that make lugging the equipment home on the C train worthwhile.
We mentioned it last night, but I’ll say it here too — over the course of our next two shows (Piano’s and Goodbye Blue Monday) we’re going to be recording our sets to get tracks for an upcoming live CD. So practice your wild adoration, it might get re-released with bonus tracks by Matador one day.
